AN OPEN LETTER FOR THE RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

April 14th, 2020

Together, our organizations service more than $16 billion of building materials purchases annually by builders, contractors, and skilled tradespeople. On April 16th, 2020, we are asking all of our customers, associates, and suppliers to support and participate in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) COVID-19 Job Site Safety Stand Down. We are urging construction workers and home builders to invest 10 minutes educating team members on what our industry should do to keep ourselves safe from coronavirus and help “flatten the curve” for everyone. The Department of Homeland Security has designated construction of single-family and multifamily housing as an “Essential Business” with “Critical Infrastructure Workforce,” allowing construction to continue in places under safer-at-home or stay-at-home executive orders from state and local governments. With workers on job sites, we need to make sure they have all the information required to stay healthy and safe. The safety stand down is designed to prevent worker exposure to coronavirus, highlight protective measures to be taken on the job site, share work practice controls to be used, and advise what to do if a worker becomes sick. It is essential everyone on a construction site alter their normal behavior and strictly follow public health guidelines for personal protective equipment, social distancing, and cleaning and disinfecting tools, equipment, and surfaces while at work. Stay safe and be strong. With each passing day, we are one step closer to putting COVID-19 behind us. The health and wellbeing of our customers, employees, suppliers, and all who visit our facilities is a priority. We thank all our stakeholders for your continued trust – and our associates for pulling together to keep builders building.
Sincerely,
